British musician, singer, and songwriter Ozzy Osbourne was born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948 in Aston, Birmingham into a family of six children that lived in dismal poverty that probably contributed to his learning disabilities.

Unable to learn properly, John Michael dropped out of school early and later met again with fellow classmate Tony Iommi, who invited him to join a band named Earth, but he disliked John's voice.

Other members, however, accepted John Michael, who adopted the stage name Ozzy Osbourne when Earth switched their name to Black Sabbath. Ozzy is a diminutive of Old Norse boy's name Osborn (Bear God) revived in the 19th century and popularized by Ozzy Osbourne.

Throughout the 1970’s, Ozzy Osbourne career spinned around Black Sabbath from their debut album in 1970 to 1979 when Ozzy left the band to start a solo career, going back and forth to play with Black Sabbath until present day.

As Black Sabbath's vocalist, Ozzy used to emulate Alice Cooper wearing makeup and acting like a psychopath confirming a supposed association of the band to Satanism. However, throughout the 1980’s, Ozzy Osbourne amazed the world as a talented musician turned into an international superstar that has sold millions of solo records around the world.

In fact, Ozzy Osbourne's solo debut album "Blizzard Of Ozz" quickly went 4x platinum, recording a total of seven platinum albums through the decade, performing at important festivals including the US Festival in 1983, Live Aid in 1985, and Moscow Peace Festival in 1989.

Although, Ozzy only released five albums throughout the 1990s, each of them went multi-platinum, winning a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 1993 for the song "I Don't Want To Change the World".

In 1996, Ozzy Osborne and his wife/manager Sharon launched OZZfest, the first national music festival of its kind that remains until the present as one of the most popular event dedicated to breaking new artists and overall hard rock music.

With the turn of the century, Ozzy has continued with his annual festivals, mult-selling awarded albums, Black Sabbath performances, and his new studio album "Black Rain", released in May 2007.
